Stag security is pleased to announce that we are now registered under the Armed Forces Covenant to support those entering back into civilised life once leaving the forces. We recognise the value Serving Personnel, both Regular and Reservists, Veterans, and military families, contribute to our business and country.

Our director Andy has spoken about why he felt it was important that Stag Security prioritise being there as an open door for servicemen and women looking to get back to what most people call normal.

Here is what Andy had to say...

"When I left the forces, I found that there was NOTHING in place to help, aid, or advise myself in the change over from the Forces back into civilised life. I believe at the time; you had to have done at least nine years of service to qualify for a course of your choice from a relatively short list of options. I want to add another two further details at this time. Firstly, this at the time felt unfair, but was commonly excepted as there was nowhere to complain or voice your concerns; the Army at this time (Admittedly, this was a long time again, back in '92 actually) wasn't fussy about helping out people who were leaving the service. It seems that the Army's view was, "Well, if you're leaving anyway, why would we bother spending time, money and effort on you?" I remember feeling that I have just literary put my life on the line for my unit and country, and this is how I get treated? I wasn't asking to be treated "Better" or "Differently" from anyone else; I just wanted to be treated fairly. At the time, I felt that wasn't too much to ask?"

“It's a well-known fact that a lot, not all Ex-servicemen/women tend to drift into roles where there is a certain degree of discipline and structure. Jobs like the Police, Fire service, Coast guards, Prison service, Transport Police, Ambulance service etc. And also Door work and Security. (I know I did!). In my experience, there are a certain amount of transferable skills used in both the forces and civilised life. The routine, skillset and structural have parallel lines; being able to follow orders, think on your feet, work under pressure etc., are all things that are second nature to servicemen/women. From a businesses owners point of view, I tend to like hiring Ex-service personal. I know what they have done and what they are capable of doing in terms of duties. Some of my best guards have been Ex-Services, and I also like to feel we here at Stag are doing something positive to help out people who aren't asking for a "Hand out" but only a "Leg up". ”

“We have in the past tried, on several occasions, to register our company details with various organisations as someone who is looking to employ service personal who are just about to be leaving, and to be perfectly honest, it's felt like to trying to herd cats, uphill, in the dark, in thick fog! It really shouldn't be this hard to make the offer to help out.”
